June 20, 2022 – The James Irvine Foundation Board of Directors approved 12 grants totaling $36.5 million last week. The Foundation also approved $7.2 million in grants this quarter that did not require board approval. More information about all recent grants can be found in the Foundation’s database here.

The grants primarily support the Foundation’s four initiatives focused on working Californians: Better Careers, Fair Work, Just Prosperity, and Priority Communities.

The board-approved grants include:

Better Careers

Amalgamated Charitable Foundation Inc

An 18-month grant of $5.5 million to create a new fund to support grassroots organizations in California that are implementing equity-driven practices in job training, access, and worker power for low-wage workers.

Center for Employment Opportunities Inc

A two-year grant of $1.5 million to advance the economic mobility of formerly incarcerated Californians.

Jobs for the Future, Inc.

A two-year grant of $1.75 million to support the Workforce Transformation Corps to incorporate a community-centered approach to workforce development that closely aligns with the needs of low-wage workers in California.

Fair Work

Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy

A three-year grant of $1.45 million for general operating support.

Mujeres Unidas y Activas

A three-year grant of $1.45 million to strengthen the leadership, voice, and economic mobility of domestic care workers, through an entity such as the California Domestic Workers Coalition.

Tides Center

A 27-month grant of $15 million to provide financial support and technical assistance to worker rights organizations across California, through an entity such as The LeadersTrust.

Warehouse Worker Resource Center

A three-year grant of $1.5 million for general operating support.

Just Prosperity

PICO California

A two-year grant of $2 million to build a statewide, multiracial, and multi-faith movement for racial and economic justice in California, through power-building, leadership development, and organizing.

Priority Communities

Community Foundation of San Joaquin Inc.

An 18-month grant of $2.53 million to advance the development of a green economy lab and inclusive economic planning for minority chambers of commerce in Stockton, through an entity such as the Edge Collaborative.

CalCEF Innovations

A one-year grant of $1.5 million to build a public-private-community-tribal partnership in the Salton Sea.

Freedman Consulting, LLC

A one-year grant of $750,000 to support the What Works Plus (WW+) collaborative to promote equitable distribution and implementation of infrastructure funding.

University Corporation at Monterey Bay

A 15-month grant of $1.5 million to catalyze local efforts to create new pathways to quality jobs and economic mobility in Monterey County, through an entity such as the Monterey Bay Drone, Automation, and Robotics Technology (DART) initiative.
