April Yee joined the Foundation as a Program Officer in June 2015. Previously, April served as a postdoctoral scholar at the Center for Poverty Research at the University of California, Davis, where she led a case study of allied health pathways in community colleges. Her earlier research investigated how young adults from different backgrounds decide to pursue particular educational and career pathways, as well as how these decisions promote or challenge social mobility and inequality. Prior to her work as a researcher, April worked directly with postsecondary students to support their success in the Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) at LaGuardia Community College and at Prep for Prep. April holds a joint Ph.D. in Sociology and Education, in addition to a master’s degree in Higher Education Management, from the University of Pennsylvania. She earned bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Studio Art from Smith College.
