PPIC Survey: Californians
And Their Government

A new survey by the Public Policy Institute of California found that Californians are concerned about the state's fiscal health in the coming year, but still have some hope for progress on the issues they care about. The statewide survey, supported by the Irvine Foundation, included the responses of 2,000 Californians.

An 'Achievable Agenda'
for Community Colleges

A policy brief by the Institute for Higher Education Leadership & Policy lays out a roadmap for strengthening California's community college system and helping more students succeed. The report, funded by the Irvine and Hewlett foundations, argues that reforms can and should begin even under current state budget constraints.

Apply for a Creative Connections Fund Grant

Starting in May, we will accept applications for the Creative Connections Fund, our new open, competitive grants program for small and midsize arts organizations in California. The fund provides grants of up to $50,000, over one or two years, for artistic creativity and cultural participation projects. Irvine Awards $10.3 Million in Grants for People of California

In March, the board of the Irvine Foundation approved 21 grants totaling more than $10.3 million to support a variety of efforts in our program areas of Arts, California Perspectives and Youth.


New Study: Just 100 High Schools Account for 40 Percent of Dropouts

New research by the California Dropout Research Project shows that just
4 percent of California high schools account for more than 40 percent of all high school dropouts. The research project, based at UC Santa Barbara, is funded by the Irvine, Gates, Hewlett and Walter S. Johnson foundations. Read the media coverage.
