To be considered for a project grant from the Creative Connections Fund, your organization must meet all of the following requirements:
- California location. Your organization must be located in California.
- 501(c)(3) status or an established relationship with an approved fiscal sponsor. If your organization is a government agency or tax-exempt under any category other than section
501(c)(3), the organization is not eligible for a Creative Connections Fund grant. Examples of ineligible organizations include 509(a) supporting organizations, public schools and business leagues or chambers of commerce.
For organizations that are fiscally-sponsored, we accept applications only from:
For more information about why we accept applications only from these fiscal sponsors, please see our Grantseeker FAQ.
- No more than 50 percent of revenues from government sources. Irvine's trust restriction prohibits us from making grants to organizations that enjoy "substantial support through taxation." For the Creative Connections Fund, we generally define this as
50 percent. To determine your organization's percentage of government support, please use this formula, using figures from your organization's most recently-filed Form 990:
Total Amount of Government Grants (Form 990, Part I, Line 1c)
divided by
Total Revenues from All Sources (Form 990, Part I, Line 12)
- Annual revenue of at least $100,000. Applicants must have a track record of generating $100,000 or more in revenue each year. We confirm this with the organization's most recently-filed Form 990 (Line 12) or signed financial statements from the previous fiscal year. For more information on this restriction, please see our Grantseeker FAQ and also refer to our list of regranting partners, which provide Irvine regranting funds to smaller organizations.
- Project grant request of no more than 10 percent of your annual organizational budget per year, to a maximum of $50,000. For example, if your organization has an annual budget of $200,000, you may request a grant of no more than $20,000 over one year or $40,000 over two years.
- No current Irvine support for the proposed project or outstanding reports due to the Foundation. Organizations with an active grant from Irvine or an outstanding report due to the Foundation are not eligible to apply to the Creative Connections Fund. Organizations that have current support from an
Irvine-funded regranting program may not apply for a Creative Connections Fund grant for the same project.
