James E. Canales President and CEO
Dear Friends,
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Irvine Foundation’s updated Web site. It has become clear to us in recent years, through user surveys and data on site usage, that our Web site has evolved into the primary channel for communication from the Foundation. That is no surprise, as the Web permits us to provide the most up-to-date information, in a way that printed materials cannot. As a result, we invested in developing a more vibrant, dynamic site.
In making these improvements, we have kept most of the same content as our former site, including detailed descriptions of our grantmaking programs, priorities and funding guidelines. We also continue to make available a variety of related resources, such as program evaluations, research reports and other publications. Most of the changes relate to the way we present and organize this information. Among the enhancements you will find are the following:
- A new Home page: The new landing page has a fresher, more vibrant look that focuses more clearly on our mission and core programs. As the majority of visitors to our Web site are prospective grantseekers, we wanted to make it easier for them to understand who we are, what we do and the impact we seek.
- More integrated content: Visitors can gain a deeper understanding of Irvine’s programs and initiatives, as we have integrated content from a variety of sources across the Web site. For any given program or initiative, you’ll now find both detailed descriptions of our priorities, as well as links to related publications, program evaluations and newsletter articles.
- Enhanced imagery and interactivity: The site has been designed with more visual elements and interactive content. You will see more images throughout the site, intended to animate our work, as well as new interactive maps as another way to present Irvine’s grantmaking.
- Improved navigation and search: We have developed a more intuitive way to navigate the site, making it easier for visitors to find the information they seek. We have also improved the search function.
As a public service institution, Irvine has a responsibility to communicate transparently and fully about our various activities and the Web site serves as one manifestation of that institutional value. I invite you to give us your insights into our Web site by taking this seven-minute online survey. As always, we greatly appreciate your interest in the work of The James Irvine Foundation.
Sincerely,
James E. Canales President and CEO
